When my brothers each turned 13 or so, my parents told them they could have extra food between meals, as long as it wasn’t junk food. I remember them having additional sandwiches throughout their teenage years. This was a good rule, since low blood sugar, shaking, & fainting when hungry run in the family. My younger brother did, in fact, faint a couple times; one time I was in the room but didn’t notice because he was in a phase of “dying” all the time.
