This is definitely NOT the Catholic Church I grew up in.
The church I grew up in seemed to be modeled on the Nazi party: very authoritarian and in control of every aspect of your life down to what books you were allowed to read and when and how to have sex.
I like the AA model: The foundation of the program is the group; the group kicks up small dues to to the district, and sends a representative, but the district has little say in how you run your group. The district kicks up due to the national council, and sends a representative, but again the national council has little say in how you run your group. Above the council is the Board, but the Board has little power beyond administration (and setting the standards).
