In our school district our elementary kids go to school in one state and the middle and high schoolers go to school in another. But there IS a river in between.
I believe that there was a previous strip with a ramp at that same angle. The sled smashed right into it, and the kid (Caulfield, possibly) went hurtling forward. Frazz mentioned that the curve was too steep.
In 1981 I got a phone call asking for a name I did not recognize, and could not find in the staff directory. The call sounded like long distance, so I asked, “What city do you want?” “Los Gatos.” “I think that’s 408.” “Isn’t 213 California?” (It was then most of Los Angeles County.)

Yeah… growing up the 503 code was the entire state of Oregon, now we have five different codes. AND my zip code just got split in three.
