Okayyy... "Colby has a plan to make it through flu season." "Dork." "He'll give it up soon." "How soon?" "AH CHOO!" "Now." "You're going to have to throw that fish bowl away."
That’s something I struggle with – letting my kids learn from their own mistakes. My son taught me to talk talk talk. Since he’s so very smart with abstract concepts and everything else, he gets it when I “talk cause and effect” etc. And with his particular challenges set, including Autism Spectrum and anxiety, he simply did NOT “recover and learn”. Now, my daughter is teaching me to keep my mouth shut and just let her fall. Or get goopy. Or whatever. Shes GOING to do whatever she’s decided to do ANYWAY, and while she really doesn’t learn as much as I would hope from her mistakes, keeping my mouth shut saves us both aggravation, is helping our relationship, and I can always hope that ONE of the scars will be one she learns from! (I am in sooooo much trrroouuubleee when she becomes a pre teen/teen!)
