Frazz by Jef Mallett for January 13, 2010
Transcript:
Girl says, "What's pease porridge?" Frazz says, "Pretty much what it sounds like." Girl says, "Pease porridge hot, pease porridge cold?" Frazz says, "Like really thick split pea soup." Girl says, "Boy, I sure wouldn't wait till it was nine days old to flush it." Frazz says, "That's not what 'pease porridge in the pot' means."
The word for “pea” used to be “pease.” It sounded too much like a plural, so people changed it to “pea.” Good old linguistic change.
