As noted in the strip, “fanny” isn’t the word George Clinton used.

Er, yeah. In the UK, that DEFINITELY has a very different meaning…

free your fanny and your employment status will follow.

Not only would “fanny” be read differently in the Commonwealth, but the distinction is also (in part) one of “forward and backward”.

(By the way, why are “fanny packs” generally worn in front? What’s up wid dat?)

Yeah, I know. I was just having a little fun. I think they were originally designed for bicyclists, being less cumbersome and more aerodynamic than backpacks or baskets, and a cyclist would necessarily be hampered by wearing one in front.

Which is why I call them belt packs. I rather be accurate than socially accepted!

This strip is missing the intro where Frazz is telling the Principal that the word has a different meaning among runners. I’m guessing he means “fanny”.

I think the statement works in either direction: free one, the other will follow.

I’m surprised to see the word “fanny” used on the comics page. But then again, I speak British English.
