It’s got nothing compared to the album version of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

@jimmyh43105 I loved The Simpsons episode where Bart slipped the sheet music for Inna Godda DiVida to the church organist and into all the hymnals. Too Funny!

And are being used in Cadillac commercials.

My favorite long song, Autobahn, is over twenty minutes long.

There needs to be a federal mandated law that limits the length of a song. I’m sure Obama would sign it.

Sure, it’s easy to find longer songs, but how many of them would have been as recognizable as “Stairway to Heaven” to a mass audince in 2012? (And if you include live versions, just about anything can be stretched to the 20-minute mark.)

Me, I can still ever-so-faintly hear the last piano chord in “A Day in the Life.”

Aha. Google tells me “S to H” was a Led Zeppelin song but, now that I’ve looked through the lyrics, I don’t get the gag. Nothing in the lyrics seems to mention a long duration or winter or anything else that would make sense of this toon.

27 minutes? thats short. i know of a few songs that are 60 minutes long, the whole cd, and ive heard of one band that has a single song that spans two cds.

“How was the Grateful Dead show?”

    “Fantastic! It lasted seven hours.”

    “Seven HOURS?!?”

“Yeah! They played BOTH of their hits!”

I remember spending many hours in the garage on my cheap little kit learning the drum solo to IGDV. Oh, and DOA by Bloodrock gave me nightmares for years. I still hate it.

Chet Atkins was telling the audience how he happened to write a particular song. He said he had done a couple gigs with Mark Knofler. He said, “Mark had this little thing he’d do with his guitar when he was warming up. ’course I stole it!” That’s the way it works folks..always has and always will…As long as you tell what you did, it’s fair. That’s literally how music advances…Everybody is listening and being influenced by everybody else…

The SRC, a Michigan band in the sixties, (peers of the MC5,) did a kick ass version of Hall of the Mountain King that turned into Bolero..Classics are great when they are rocked out…

“I love the music to STH, but the lyrics are downright irritating. Robert, couldn’t you stick with one concept for more than two lines?”

Don’t be alarmed, man. It’s just a Spring-clean for the May Queen.

Besides, as was said about the writing of “Bohemian Rhapsody” in this space a few weeks ago, “[He] could tell right away it wasn’t going to work, but [he] was having too much fun not to finish it.”

The longest song I can tolerate is American Pie. The next option was Tonight, Tonight, Tonight by Genesis… the album version was like 6 or 8 long so I edited it to about the length of the radio version for my MP3 player. ;-)

Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” must be too long, because the radio stations play an abridged version. On the other hand, they never cut “Hey Jude”, which includes 18 (18—I counted them) repetitions of the refrain at the end.
