June and July have easy names, too…I’ll vote to make them longer as well!

FEB woo erry — for some reason when trying to pronounce Febrooerry I get Elmer Fudd syndrome.

I move we rename it “March Eve.”

@ NebulousRikulau I think him and Augustus Caesar had a hand in the current calendar, as each of them have a month named after them (I know Augustus himself had August named after him, at least)

What is so rare as a day in June?/The scholar’s eyes grew wary./Not to, he said, be picayune,/A day in February./I think that was Asimov also but haven’t checked it./@NebulousRikulau, if you want to use the names that’s fine with me, but get the Ides and the Nones right. Everyone seems to think the Ides are always the 15th, when most months they are the 13th. “In March, July, October, May, the Ides are on the 15th day.”

I’d rather have a long April and October, my two favorite months!

I never could pronounce this month right. Our modern calendar is not the Julian as stated above by Nebulous. It’s based on the Gregorian arrangement first devised by somebody working for Pope Gregory, the same pope who gave us the Gregorian chant. They fixed the calendar to even out the year as based on the earth’s rotation in relation to the moon. That is how we ended up with with a leap year every four years. This year we have 29 days in February. July and August were named for Roman Emporers Julius and Augustus respectively.

The World Calendar was promoted by the UN in the 1950s, but vetoed by the US on orders of fundamentalists who thought the intercalary days would mess up the Sabbath. Apparently they are not permitted to cross the International Date Line. Calendar publishers probably opposed it too, but were quite well hidden behind the scenes back then. Now that corporations have more rights than Homo sapiens, it will be even more difficult. But still should be done.
