Frazz by Jef Mallett for February 23, 2013
Transcript:
Caulfield: Michael Phelps said it's "not that bad" to piddle in the pool. Frazz: That's old news. Caulfield: Yeah, but a group of scientists recently backed him up. If scientists are going to tell me how I can be more like Michael Phelps, I'd rather go fast than go freely. Frazz: I've never appreciated your ambition more.

Ashburn, (In the Saginaw, MI Fairgrounds, “Largest Midway East of the Rockies!”…at the time…doesn’t exist any more, sigh…) a sign over the urinal said “Our aim is to keep this place clean…your aim will help..”

I’ve got one that says “We don’t swim in your toilet… Please don’t pee in our pool”

Ok, so you can pee, but please, PLEASE, don’t poop in the pool.

The math: a moderate sized school pool is 25 by 10 by 1.5 (average depth) meters. That’s 375 cubic meters (375,000 liters) of water. A fairly hefty pee is about 0.25 liters, which is a dilution of under one part per million of a substance that is sterile and mostly water to begin with.
@Chaze126: don’t forget that Frazz also has a girlfriend, social relationships with several adult teachers (notably Burke), and at least a couple non-school friendships (most notably the guy he races with). That pretty much eradicates any creepiness factor in my book.

Just don’t drink the pool water, okay?

let’s hope it just pee, and not other bodily fluids

My guess would be that on any given Saturday, Frazz might swim with Caulfield, bike with what’s-his-name, shoot some hoops with Burke, and then spend a sweet evening relaxing with Jane (and Mario). Then on Sunday, he might spend the afternoon by himself writing a new song. A pretty good balance, no?

Every time I see a public pool, I think about what percentage of the water must be pee and sweat….

“Does Frazz only hang out with little kids? Creepy.”
The kid Frazz mostly “hangs out” with is Caulfield, and I think that’s mostly because Caulfied hangs out with Frazz.
Moreover, the strip doesn’t pretend to show ALL of Frazz’s life. When was the last time we actually saw him at home, for instance? The strip isn’t always set at the school, but everybody in it is associated with the school, and that’s going to mean a high proportion of children…
