Boy: I'm so excited about turkey day I persuaded my mom to buy deli turkey for my sandwiches this week! I'm going to regret this by Saturday, aren't I? Caulfield: Only through Sunday. Boy: Oh, right. After that you freeze or toss the leftovers. Caulfield: That, or take regret to a new level.
I must need more coffee…. I do not get the joke here today. What is the humor about regret being on Saturday or Sunday? I know she is thinking the turkey in her lunch this week may be overkill because they will have turkey and turkey leftovers for a few days after Thanksgiving. But the “regret to a new level” part…. it escapes me…. and I presume that is the punchline. If anyone cares to explain and clue me in, I would appreciate it.
