Frazz: To 2016. It's toast.
Miss Plainwell: Not quite what I meant by a toast, but it works.
Frazz: Like a really think slice of toast, where some of it's burnt to a crisp but the good parts are exquisite.
Whatever – I hope each of you and the commenters who follow have a great New Year. I also look forward to future strips and the commentaries. They brighten my day, regardless of the subject or the tone.
If Frazz and Miss Plainwell are still in San Francisco there are a few places were they can get a good, thick slice of toast with all sorts of artsy-fartsy, er, artisanal toppings.
I’m not really a fan of this strip, but the comments are interesting. I did not think 2016 was a great year, but did not think it was so bad, either. It was just another ordinary run of the mill year as far as I was concerned. My annual pay raise was the lowest I ever got (I don’t even want to tell how little it was – it was that bad), but being 2016 had nothing to do with the lousy raise. It was the greedy CEO’s wanting more money in their pockets and less in mine. I’m waiting to see if this year’s raise is the same pathetic raise I got last year. But I’m glad someone posted some of the good things that happened in 2016. I think last year got a bad rap. The good stuff just does not get the media coverage the bad stuff gets.

I’m testing Susan’s instructions on making spaces. That’s the other reason I’m here. Not so much for the strip as i am for the comments. Now I want to see if the space break works.

There was something exquisite about 2016?

Having friends was the ‘went right’. You know who your friends are and their value when things do not go right.

Also, Frazz is a successful songwriter….
Ergo, someone who thinks a lot about the meaning and effect of words.
He’s sitting with his sweetheart, toasting a year they spent together,
He’d be too eloquent (and too romantic) to say it was all bad,
no matter what happened outside their own little world.

Meanwhile… rekam…. still hoping you check out the answer (yesterday and the day before) to the question you asked me.
Which engendered new questions, it seems…
So… yes, I use the same method that rgcviper posted to get a blank line…
Hit “enter” twice, to make what looks like a blank line in your typing, but it won’t show that way on the comics.
Then type, on its own line,
nbsp;
All in small letters, no spaces.
Then hit enter twice again, before the next line.
Those three lines (two blank with only nbsp; on the middle one) will turn into one blank line when posted.
To help you remember the code….
nbsp stands for “non-breaking space.”
An ampersand at the beginning and a semi-colon at the end make it an HTML character.
That particular character is a blank space.
To simply make a sentence go to the next line, with no space in between:
GoComics ignores hitting “enter” once.
Text will get pulled up into the line before.
You have to hit enter twice to keep it underneath, as I did several times in this paragraph. The spaces will be ignored.

Aaaand…. @Keep on….. and others…
It’s true that alt codes are for PCs….
But HTML codes like and °: work whether “typed” on a PC, a Mac, or a phone.
Took me forever to convince my phone I meant to type them…. if I stay alert for misguided autocorrections, they work just fine.
Also, _text_ and *text* work just fine for italics and bold from all platforms.
And to the person who objected to this discussion….
we are teaching each other, NOT how to use our computers, but how to make our posts look better on GoComics….
so this is the place, indeed to do it.

Aaaagh!
I made a typo in my long comment….
It’s not just nbsp; that makes a space.
You need the ampersand or it won’t work.
Too late to delete and repost cos of comments following.
Winkster…. glad I unknowingly answered you!
:)
And yeah, you can hit enter over and over but te space will be ignored without in there.

It was not a bad year, it was not a good year.
