A little late, Kid, but a good idea any time. Doctor’s waiting room Friday: everyone looking at his/her phone – one guy had 2 – with very intense ’don’t bother me’ posture, also known as the Igor. With two exceptions: one person reading a book and who looked very content, and I, who observed the scene. Reminded me of the painting Room in New York by Edward Hopper, in which one sees 2 people in a very small room, but who are separated by an almost visible wall of silence.
Damn the silence. Damn the phones. I’ll strike up a conversation anywhere, anytime, with anyone, about anything! I have learned more about people and their lives than anything a device could show me. People have emotions. They are passionate about life and family. They share ideas, thoughts, and hobbies. Ok, I’ll get down off my soap box now. I don’t mind having my phone to read a book in a doctor’s waiting room. I still don’t miss the budding of the trees. There is a time and place
