I used to live in Cleveland, OH. A sure sign of spring was when some ice fishing dodo, drove out on weak ice and lost his truck. The Coast Guard would rescue him, leave the truck and cite the person for polluting the lake. Ya can’t fix dumb.
Later this morning, I’ll be feeling like spring is a long, long way off as I take a quick dip in the Detroit River via the Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics. For those who are wondering about the runway show, I will be wearing a pair of water-polo cut briefs in a nice pastel green with pink flamingoes, and a Stormy Kromer hat. And hoping desperately that I look more like Elmer Fudd than I do the Michelin Man.

It’s either the first sign of spring, or he ran out of beer.

It’s inevitable, but it snowed here today and has for the past two days. Happily, not too much accumulation!

You know, I like this strip, and I like the characters, the educational nature of it…. and the wit….
but sometimes the kids… and even Frazz…. could be kinder.
Even a little more accepting.
Excuse me, honey…. but maybe that “Ice fishing nerd” you mock is somebody’s favorite uncle…. a friend’s loving dad…
or you’ll grow up and fall for his grandson (or granddaughter?… can’t tell if that’s a boy or a girl.)
Yeah yeah…. the clothes are funny, and I get the joke….
it’s just the dismissive phraseology I worry about….
and the idea of a child being so judgemental……
picking up in elementary school that imperfection … e.g. in diet, athleticism, or hipness…. is laughable.
Having been a nerdy kid, I know how it feels.

I have purple weeds coming up everywhere. Time to take more allergy medicine.

I think it’s been in the 70s almost all week and the trees are budding out and the daffodils started opening weeks ago.
