I used to get up at the crack of dawn to ride my bike up and down the alleys to see what was on offer in the various junk piles. At 66 years old I now can’t believe what I found ‘cool’ at age 11.

All the kid needs to do is add a P to the CCC on his helmet and he’ll have an official Soviet Cosmonaut helmet.

http://www.gocomics.com/frazz/2018/08/13When I was a teen-ager, I slept like the dead. By which I mean I lay on my back, legs straight and not crossed, nose pointed toward the ceiling, no movement whatsoever, hands gently folded across my chest. You might just as well have placed a lily between my hands, which my father did on multiple occasions to his great amusement. And I have to admit it really was pretty funny, especially since iPhone cameras and image-sharing social media platforms were still safely far in the future, and my dad’s inclination to learn how to use them is to this day quite a ways off. I don’t think my dad intended to make fun of me. He may have been a musician, but he knew a good sight gag when one presented itself. And I don’t recall him being a militant early riser. I think he just wondered a lot if I really HAD died in my sleep, and didn’t want to have to explain letting me sleep until rigor mortis set in.
