A friend was an avid bicyclist. Trained and trained. Owned several bikes. Worked out, often and hard. I finally managed to meet some personal goal involving 25 miles out and back within a ridiculously short time period. And promptly slowed down. Now he bikes to work, but he no longer works to bike. He has told me that he’s simply not built to be a competitive bicyclist, which makes him sad, sometimes, because if he HAD that body, he’d surely have done something good with it!

I do that with lots of things. Sooner or later, it becomes its own form of madness. Nothing laid back about it.

When you live a shallow life, exercise can make you feel like you’ve accomplished something.

I wonder if Frazz has ever read one of my favorite long-form comics? https://theoatmeal.com/comics/running
