My mother had a miniature greyhound who loved to lie on the bricks in front of her wood stove. He would get so relaxed that his muscles wouldn’t work and someone would have to pick him up and move him away! He wasn’t close enough to get burned, of course, andf was quite safe. I asked her what happened if nobody was home, and she replied that the wood stove was never left burning if nobody was home. (And in my large family, there was almost always somebody around to keep an eye on things, including warm grehounds, lol..
