Dude, you can paddle all you want, but the duck will win, and when he’s thru playing with you, he’ll fly, fly away. Amphibious, to a point you might be, but even flapping those magnificent ear flaps of yours won’t get you airborne.

But……….Fred , you are in ‘his’ element now, in which ‘he’ is more ‘at home’

And again today’s strip is somehow aptly :-) I saw a rainbow an hour ago and am nealy completely rain-drenched by now. Waiting for my psychooncologist appointment. I am very glad that I took some dry clothes into the car that s morning. I am really looking forward to get changed.

Fred, you go or swimm chase the duck and I go see Mrs. Doctor and then head back to my car and get dry clothes. If only I could shake like dogs…

Fred, the duck will flap his wings and leave you stranded in the middle of the lake!

We had a basset that loved to swim, she could paddle around for hours. Our American Water Spaniel chased a duck for about a mile across Lake Cadillac … the bird occasionally flapping its wings to stay ahead. It finally flew away and the dog swam back across the lake rather than running along the nearby shore. Dogs can be amazing swimmers.

We had one dog who didn’t mind the water. We would take him out in our boat with the outboard motor, and when we went through the shallows where we had to slow down, he would jump off the bow and paddle back to the boat. The second dog used to follow Dad around the rim of the above ground pool while he was cleaning it, until the day he tried to turn around and fell in. He made it back to the platform, but never went near water again.

If Fred were a lazy character, he might have an Amphicar for the chase. My Shelties could swim but they mostly hated water.

Shoulda watched more of those Disney Dumbo the Elephant cartoons. Fred ears might have been enough, with a bit of training… and could take that duck on in the air.
