Everybody says that transistors made miniaturization possible but… The first transistors on the market weren’t much smaller than nuvistor tubes and they were already making compactrons, multiple tubes in one envelope… I think that “smaller” was the direction that technology was heading
Interestingly enough, the Google Translate API v2 is now available as a paid service, with 1M characters of text being charged at $20.00. That seems reasonable enough that someone could monetize a fun “babelization” site if they wanted to…
Re: Volkswagen. A relative who sells foreign cars told me about this older gentleman who refused to buy a Honda or a Toyota “…because of what the Japs did in WWII.” So my cousin said, “OK, how about a BMW?” The guy said, “Yeah, that’d be OK.”

Vacuum tubes still very much used in the music/recording industry. Different sound than transistors—much preferred for electric guitar amps and certain microphones….the VF-14 tube in my Telefunken U-47 microphone was discontinued in the fifties, but, I believe they have some sort of reissue out now.FA is the only strip I can’t resist reading the whole comments section….learn something every morning here.
English no longer spoken or read here? Ellipsis: hesitation (for dramatic effect). “Anything”: object of verb. “Girl”: object of gerund (“watching”) and subject of phrase “girl bathe…anything.” My fault: I didn’t realize it was that hard.
I’m too mentally lazy to follow your now erstwhile grammatical tiff with Sisyphos. IT was a good FAT. It was a noble FAT. It was a FAT that kept me from doing any actual work at my office on many a Saturday afternoon. The FAT is dead. Long live the FAT.

Watching a girl (his sister, I suspect) bathe…anything: his indiscretion. Clean-cut, “good” boy: yeah, sure!

I’m still not sure what those vacuum tubes were for. Are they like spark plugs for old TVs?

Vacuum tubes were what Daddy took down the drug store to test every Saturday when the cartoons came on.

Isn’t inflating goats for immoral preadolescence illegal north of the Mason Dixon?
