The party of the first part, signed below, shall act without question on orders given by the party of the second part, on penalty of whatever comes to mind at the moment for the party of the second part.Rotifer’s Mother is very proud of him.

    Dear Ms. Burritt Teresa,

It was a very nice thought on your part to recognize Rotifer’s loyalty to your twisted special brand of cartoonery.

Unfortunately today’s strip fanned the flames of his already overheated ego, the massive fame attendant to any mention in Frog Applause went straight to his head, and he went on a pasta bender. Lord knows where he is now but the parking lot of Olive Garden waiting for the doors to open would be a good place to start looking.

If I find him and can dry him out without having to send him back to camp in Italy I’ll make sure he sends you a nice thank you note.

    Sincerely,

    Rotifer’s Mother

P.S. That nice Mr Brass Orchid is right. I’m very proud of my Rotty, his pasta dependency notwithstanding. After all, P.D. is a disease like any other (especially adrenal insufficiency, failing manhood, nervous debility, involuntary kazoolessness and Oxford comma deficiency).

Why is Rotifer Teresa’s favorite? I bring a shiny apple and other trinkets to her almost every day and she still doesn’t even know my name.

I hate the Olive Garden. They claim to treat you just like family, but then they demand money when you’ve finished eating. (Yes, I know my name is Olive like Olive Garden.)

Early 17th cent.: Italian, ‘having greatest authority,’ superlative of generale. Generalissimo is a military rank of the highest degree, superior to field marshal and other five-star ranks in the countries where they are used. .George Washington is listed on Wikipedia as attaining the rank of “generalissimo”:Promoted posthumously to General of the Armies of the United States on January 19, 1976 with date of rank of July 4, 1776.Wikipedia.

When I graduated from high school, my mother presented me with the want ads and informed me of the rates she would be charging for room and board henceforth.I can see where Olive Garden could say that they treat you just like family and be entirely accurate in their advertising.I cannot imagine a world where I went off to college for free for four years and then came back to live with my parents, though I am told that this is something that happens.

Rotifer & Rotifer may be attorneys-at-law, and i certainly am entertained by Ma Thalweg and today’s exchange with the slightly bent BrassOrchid (bless them both!), but still, being of a certain age, what leapt into my excuse for a mind was the sci-fi short story by Robert Abernathy (1953), The Rotifers" and, even more, a dimly recalled TV story arc featuring rotifers as A Bad Thing in early black & white TV sci-fi (a late afternoon show pitched at kids, I think, but I can’t recall which; not Tom Corbett, Space Cadet, I’m pretty sure. Any help?)….
