Many, many years ago, my eldest sisters friend’s dog taught our neighbour’s dog, that rolling in cowpats, and jumping in muddy ditches was fun! There was so much hosing down to be done….
Oh yes, so Dog! My Gram once made the mistake of having our Spaniel groomed a day or so before going out to the cabin for a weekend. First thing the dog did when released from the car was to run straight for the pond and jump in.
Many years ago my mother worked with a lady from a once-wealthy Chinese family. They owned a pure white Samoyed dog that would jump into the tub if it got the smallest speck of dirt on its fur, and demand a bath. I said “That couldn’t have been a dog.”
I dogsat my sister’s Vizsla some years ago and when she returned a week later, she hugged him hello and said, “Oh, you smell like a boy’s house!” Her place at the time smelled like potpourri.
Bella doesn’t tend to get many opportunities to roll in stinky stuff, but she self-generates a horrendous stench now and then due to her overly sensitive tummy!
I am the only person who keeps her dog on a leash outside? My dog never rolls in anything. We took a walk this afternoon with a neighbor and his puppy. It was unplanned on my part, but I think the beagle nose knew they were coming down the street. I took her out, and we walked together around a few blocks. When we came back, I let Bunny’s leash go and she headed up towards our porch. I told my friend that she would stop and turn around, and look at me as if to say, “aren’t you coming?” He just laughed. He stopped laughing when she stopped, turned around, and gave the look. Then he laughed all over again.

What normal dog doesn’t as soon as they can get the chance after they’re clean is to find some dirt to roll in to get rid of the “stink”.

Nothing like the pure joy of rolling in it.

Stella is in charge there today. She’s higher than everyone else and everyone is doing what she wants, except, well, cats just don’t.
