Re Jack Benny copy cat: What’s to choose in a DVD player unless it records as well as plays. Now, if it was a multi-ststem player that could play foreign DVDs, the that would be another thing.
The Jack Benny racing tout, usually played by Sheldon Leonard, would do this sort of thing with absolutely anything. He’d tell Jack not to take elevator #3 but to take #2 because #3 “is carryin’ too much weight” and “#1 is a local; it can’t go the distance”. People familiar with the old JB radio show or the TV show are getting a lot of references in this running gag.

Just dont buy a Magnavox DVD/VCR combo, I had two of them and they are junk, I had to return both of them and get my money back.
