It would be the best artwork, except for that darn parrot!

What’s the guy on top of the coal tender doing with the water spout? That’s not a coal chute.

Jim is one a a handful of true artists left in the daily comics. As for a possible plot twist – there may have been hints but they were very well played.

@JanCinLV – The tender on a steam locomotive holds far more water than it does coal. The coal bunker is situated in the front, center of a water tank. Steam locomotives use far more water than they do coal. Many folks mistakenly refer to the tender as a “coal car”. It isn’t. It’s just that the coal is all you see as the water is in a tank surrounding the coal.

Wonderful art, wonderful story arc, wonderful parrot….. and wonderful for featuring the best character around….. Joel…. at least much of the arc. I still would relish Jim creating an arc where we see Joel telling us about his younger days on the rails as a “hobo”.

FANTASTIC story and art work. 5 years ago an RN at our local hospital concurred that “many cancer patients have gotten well from having surrounded themselves with laughter”. The possible logic is laughter relieves the person from all stress…that which in most cases brings on a host of aillments. Yes, it would be nice to see Jimmy get well through whatever measure.
