At the least, it’s a surprise centennial roast for Walt (and Gasoline Alley).Beyond that… for quite some time, it has seemed to me that “retiring” Walt to the old funnies home would be a way to continue with the mostly real-time aging format of the GA cast without having him “die” or get improbably older and older. He could still appear in the strip as often as he has been – just have Skeezix and the others visit him at the home.
