As a teenager we had one self-serve station (not very common then) that charged $.25/gal. This was when gas was typically in the 30-35 cent range at most stations. You could fill a 20 gallon tank for $5. It started changing in a big way during the gas “crisis” we had in the late 70’s until we’re where we are at today and I can get maybe 2 gallons for $5. Not all change is good…. 8^)

I’m old enough to remember when you could put a dollar’s worth of gas in your car and actually go someplace.
