Looks like Hobart quickly turned his attention elsewhere. According to the Associated Press, Newport Beach, Calif. officials are voting to cut pensions for lifeguards, who now can retire at age 50 with 30 years of service and receive 90 percent of salary. New hires will have a pension worth up to 50 percent less. Too bad Gil wasn’t on the scene.
And that is probably the end of that adventure, and of the baseball season. No more Hobart, or Al-Jo or Glory, or Al-Jo’s mum. What a confusing melange of sub-plots!This time last year, there was a short golf interlude featuring Carl, the parent from hell, before football.Has Gil ever looked at tennis?I would have liked to have seen more of Hobart and to have found out what happened to him.
As I predicted (not that it was that hard) the story wraps up and one quick mention of the end of baseball/softball without any knowledge of what happened for the last half of the season.
The first panel would have been better if Picard had said, “Make it so Number 1.” Glad to see fiscal responsibility is linked to Hobart. Now, the school district can go broke… or else the whole conversation between Fat Albert and Hobart will go completely forgotten, and the fiscal problems are solved by the sale of Hobart’s 1998 Buick LeSabre.
Why does Al-Jo’s mom dress like she was a college student in the 60’s? The woman is likely in her early 40’s. She would have grown up with big hair a parachute pants, not tie dye and embroidered vests.

First appearance in the strip by Al-Jo’s dad, Hippie Randy Newman!

Is it her dad …. or her elderly grandmother?

And that’s why everybody reads Gil Thorp, of course — to know how the baseball/softball season comes out.

So this is the last game for who? Slim Chance? The Ghost? Who graduates from MILFord this year?
And with the season ending, Mimi’s bikini hijinx is right arouond the corner . . . YES!

Thumbs up to Mimi bikini hijinx! As for P2, based on the dangling earring, I believe that’s supposed to be Al-Jo’s hippie mother.

Yes, let’s finish up the Baseball season. School has been out for a couple of week’s now.

Maybe, JerryP, but before he became a hippy, Al-Jo’s square-jawed father was a dashing buccaneer, plundering the bounding main!

Looks like Thorp showed up late for the boys’ final win over Valley Tech.
