Gray’s son is old enough to remember Communists?

Our party line number was three rings. Sometimes you picked up to make a call and people were on the line talking.

Ours was 2 short and a long. Definitely irritating to be interrupted by clicks of others on the party line picking up, listening, and then hanging up. Nobody talked on the phone for hours … for certain!

Our ring was one long and two short. We had an eight parties on our line.

And I was told about sixteen party lines.
