Think about, Heart, almost all movies came from books. (Can y’all, “Heart of the City” readers, imagine a “Heart of the City” movie?)

Too bad they decided to stretch the book by making 3 movies. Even if they throw in stuff from the Simarillion and the Fellowship of the Ring, it’s a bit of overkill.

Read “The Hobbit,” Heart. You just might get something out of it.And yes, I know the Dwarves had a battle, first against and then with the Elves and the Lakemen. But that’s not the main gist of the book.

And “nerd” is every bit as offensive as the other “n” word.

Short book becomes three movies by severe and no always artful inflation and insertion of additional Tolkeinisms?

After hearing about The Hobbit my whole life, I finally decided to read it about 12 or 13 years ago. I thought it was entertaining, but overrated. The timing was interesting, though. When I was about half way through, I heard that they were making the LOTR movies. So I decided that I might as well read them as well.

The guys in my HS band were reading Bored of the Rings (it’s about HS-level humor). I blew through The Hobbit so I could understand the Rings trilogy, just so I could understand the parody. When I read it, it was (at the time) the funniest thing I’d ever read. I was laughing out loud so much and so hard that my dad asked me if I was taking an entrance exam for a psych ward.

Chikuku, what you are is a fan. You’re inttelligent, have imagination, and can appreciate stories and art. That deserves appreciation and respect, not put-downs.

First, I still think it’s awesome that Mark produces one of the most talky funny strips and perhaps the most workless non-Henry strip at the same time.
And I love the gentle prod to reading.

She could read that book. Or play video games. Seriously, not 1 Mass Effect reference from 2007 to date.
