He makes X amount, and she gets half of it? Sounds like she has a divorce attorney.

agreed, give me a break. Alot of these comparisons are about apples and oranges. I worked at a nuclear power plant and we had women in all departments. If anything the women worked the sweeter assignments in each department. Example mechanical maintence, guys doing the heavy lifting working down in the grease pits on the large equipment, women being the tool runners or the person keeping track of tools and materials entering the work area. Second example Radiation protection department, guys entering the containment to monitor jobs in radiation areas, gals working the desk or doing surveys outside the containment.

The things they usually compare to get these numbers are management positions, where employers do pay women less because alot of them are not as commited to the career as the men. Due in part to their desire to have families.

Still true — still denied by half the population. Ok, some of us are up around 70%, but that is only an average.

I’m with lindz. Notice that all the negative comments are by men. Statistics make it clear that women are not paid nearly the same amount as men for the same job.

To be accurate, her mom would have a position that would pay a man about 70% of what her dad makes, because 70% of THAT will result in half…. That’s using the classic number of “70 percent for the same job.”

Presently, the average amount is close to 80%, but a lot of that is thought to be due to women spending less time in the labor force because some sacrifice part or all of their employable hours to take care of children. (The image of stay-at-home dads may be more acceptable nowadays, but they are still comparatively rare)

Even accounting for every possible factor, men still earn 5 to 10 percent more than women, seemingly just because they are men. Things have gotten much better, but they still have farther to go.
