I’ve always been concerned that it leaves the merchant (or whoever) with the out that they can claim any illegible scrawl they have on file is, of course, my signature of approval, whether I wrote it or whether someone else did.

What’s worse is leaving your “tap to pay” card sitting on the device. The next person eats for free!

Walmarts pads pop up with PIN request when you put the card in, and if you select "sign for purchase’ it just processes. You don’t even need to sign.

What bothers me are the websites with a fancy javascript to allow you to sign with your finger on a phone or a mouse/trackpad on a computer. I fail to see how such a signature would stand up in court if it came to that.

My signature is a scrawl, but it’s consistent and can’t be easily forged.
