Had 2 bike accidents that involved my head. 1st one I didn’t wear my helmet and had 25 stitches in my head. Second was wearing my helmet, hit a metal stop light pole with the top of my head and slightly pulled a muscle in my shoulder and that was all. I am a HUGE believer in helmets.
I always point to my head when I see folks riding without a helmet. I have had brain surgery not for cycling accident and I tell people it’s not that fun. I actually convinced one adult in my neighborhood to wear a helmet when he rides around the block.
NO laughing matter. My nephew has severe CTE from many concussions and injuries from accidents while he was into the BMX riding. This even with the helmets. He can no longer hold a job and the anger issues at times can be scary for those around him. Heavy doses of meds keeps it mostly in check. Thing about CTE is there’s no conclusive way to diagnose CTE while a person is alive!
In one of life’s great ironies, a motorcyclist crashed and died due to head injuries sustained while protesting his right to refuse to wear a helmet. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-motorcycle-helmet/motorcyclist-crashes-in-helmet-law-protest-dies-idUSTRE76220Q20110703
Always wear your headgear, no matter what kind of bike you’re on
several years ago while I was still working one of my coworkers came into the book store wearing his bike helmet. the helmet was so old it was what I call a ping pong style helmet instead of the more streamlined models that were popular at the time. I turned to him and said, “with such an old style helmet you must have some interesting stories about it.” At first he told me he didn’t have any interesting stories, then he told me the story of why he bought the helmet. He and a friend were out riding their bikes, they were riding side by side and talking to each other, one time he turned to say something to his friend and he wasn’t there. He turned back and found his friend sitting on the curb holding the side of his where the road burn had torn away his hair from that side of his head (it never did grow back). It turned out the front sprocket on his bike had snapped without warning and his front fork had dug into the asphalt and sent him head first into the road while the side of his scalp skimmed down the side of the curb. The next day my friend went to the nearest bike shop and bought a helmet. He never had an accident with his bike, but he never rode his bike without wearing that helmet.
A friend of mine went off his motorcycle once. I looked at his helmet after. One side was scraped halfway through. He came out with scrapes, bruises and a chipped tooth.

I thought the deacon was blind. He always has shades on in the restaurant. Is it just an affectation of his?

Yes, a helmet is the twentieth most-important piece of safety equipment.
The most-important part of a helmet is the chin strap.
The chin strap won’t help if the helmet is too large or too small.
