In high school the star football player got an athletic scholarship. We both attended the same college. He did not play college football. His reason, “People get seriously injured playing football.” He became a doctor, a pediatric cardiologist. Sadly he died at age 65; heart attack.
Safety is very important … and while saying “Safety First” sounds great, … I like Mike Rowe’s idea of “Safety Third”. (If safety was really always first, (almost) nothing would ever get done.)
I remember when rugby league was asked to bring in concussion rules the version doctors wanted was first concussion: you’re off. Second concussion: your season is over. Third concussion: you’re retired.

That´s the trouble with football, you take a time out and their minds wander.

A nephew with what is most probably CTE, I would venture to never cross that picket line.

Which side are you on boys?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on boys?
Which side are you on?
My daddy was a linesman,
And I’m a lineman’s son,
He’ll be with you fellow players
Until this battle’s won.

A lot of important issues are black and white, but this is definitely a gray matter.

Humans certainly do not need brains to play or enjoy football
