I understand Google just landed a contract with companies that build apartment complexes and that they are stocked with all their products including smart locks, thermostats, sockets, etc.Now you can move in with all the spy equipment already in place.
The triple A’s (Alphabet, Amazon, and Apple) are double-edged swords that while useful tools can use our personal information for improving their bottom line. It would have been better if we had established some guidelines for the Internet, but then we would have to have knowledgeable representatives in Congress, not technophobes too busy with personal issues to learn anything new or work for their constituents. We seem to be our own worst enemy when it comes to governing the nation. We have created a system that repels the best and brightest and attracts the scoundrels, and least competent egoists who are willing to let lobbyists have their way while ignoring we the people.
A more accurate drawing would include several small local stores being crushed under their feet. The average small business owner hasn’t a chance when one of these behemoths enters the picture. So far, however, they have not been able to replace auto mechanics, house painters, plumbers, electricians, or hvac techs, or classroom teachers, but they are revising the rest of what we used to call our everyday lives.
When I was growing up in California in the 50/60s they had “Fair Trade” laws- the manufacture could set a minimum price and retail stores could not sell below that price. So for example Levi jeans would be $10 pair weather you bought them at a small mens’ shop or at Sears. Milk was like $.48 half gallon even though Safeway could have sold it at a profit for $.40. How many would favor taking this nationwide? A 65" Samsung tv would be $700 weather you buy it at Amazon, Crutchfield, Best Buy orPryor TV?

We need anti-trust legislation that can deal with the modern corporate situation. Lina Khan has a good discussion of it here:
