Joe, did you forget that when then-Ray got out of prison and took Mortimer back, Mortimer went back to your house all on his own? Getting lost was never an issue.

If you hear the doorbell why do you need the dog to bark?

We have dogs cannot hear the door bell, yet if knocking on the door they do hear and start barking. Joe has hard time accepting his dog’s gift of help.

“I can’t teach that dog how to bark when someone rings my doorbell”!

He’s a very smart dog. Have you tried ASKING?

This is another example of Mortimer not doing dog-like things…more like Superdog-like things. It is fairly obvious that Mortimer is an alien visiting this planet and helping while he is here.

When I had my dog, if someone rung the door bell, he would go nuts trying to protect me. He would stand between me and the door and bark insanely. Miss him so much. On the other hand, when the door bell rings , my cats freak out and go hide.
