The object in the first panel is a 45-foot statue by Claes Oldenburg of a spring clothespin in downtown Philadelphia. Wikipedia says “. . . Clothespin addresses the city’s civic issues and tries to bridge gaps across income levels through its universally recognized form.” Excuse me while I barf.
