I know it’s kind of wishful thinking, but since the other day I asked who Doctor Appleby was, and Mr. Armstrong replied to my comment, I feel like that inspired him to make this strip.

For years Garrison Keillor told stories about a Senator K. Torvaldson in Lake Wobegon. Most listeners assumed the guy was a senator or former senator, but Keillor revealed only once or twice that his parents named him “Senator.” He never actually was one.
When I was at BYU, the head of the English department, I kid you not, was a man named Bill Shakespeare. His parents had him typecast for life and poor guy, I wonder how many thousands before me gave him that same look of utter disbelief on introduction.
