Bug Blog by Cuco Rocha I'll Buy The Ticket I have a great idea for the bigoted Pam Geller's next "Draw Muhammad Cartoon Contest." "Pam Geller's Draw Muhammad Contest: Middle Eastern World Tour."
Yes, she has the right, meaning that the government will not come after her for speaking her mind. However, the government can and has stopped people from incitement (you can’t yell “fire” in a crowded theater or verbally encourage others to commit crime). Also, even if the government doesn’t stop you, you still have to take into account the consequences of your speech. We’ve seen people in this country be murdered for less offensive comments than the pictures of Muhammed were intended to be. If she truly wanted to do something productive about the absurd and evil murders of people portraying Muhammed, she might focus on the fact that there was a time when there was no prohibition against portraying him – it’s relatively new – so the prohibition is itself un-Islamic.
i saw a cop there on tv, he said “we expected some kind of trouble”. that makes me think of that old joke…Hey, doc, it hurts when i do that!doctor: then don’t do that…
I’m waiting to see what Geller does in the future. I think it’s fine to knock down a taboo. I’m not so sure about continuing on that path—she made her point—what’s next.
What a lot of present day immigrants are forgetting is that America is the vast melting pot of cultures. To succeed in America you have to adapt and be somewhat assimilated into the present day culture of America. You don’t have to give up your religion or your language, IN YOUR OWN HOME. You do have to learn and use the English language in public. Failure to adapt to American culture causes isolation and formation of ethnic neighborhoods with the danger of economic loses. American culture is constantly changing, and if you don’t believe that you have been living with your head in the sand.
Seems to me you’re not taking your own advice…and changing. Maybe if you tried to learn another language, go to a Muslim religious ceremony as a peaceful observer or accept someone elses differances for once you could adapt to differant cultures. Americans are the stupidest, most willfully ignorant and arrogant people on earth and you’re not helping. i’m a native born American and i find learning new things to be invigorating.

More of the same, I have no doubt. Don’t get between Pam and publicity. Once something gets attention, they double down on it. See also: Ann Coulter.

Anyone interested in the controversy about depicting Muhammad should google “Byzantine iconoclasm”.
