Wow, crazy to contemplate reaching an age where the Far Side is nostalgia. But Lio rocks.

I love the cow holding up its hoof behind the boy’s head for the photo. Probably one of the best bucks Lio has ever spent!

Somewhere on the map is probably an entire neighborhood of Peanuts characters, with that round-headed kid in charge. After all, Charlie Brown was known as a….block head.

DonVanni: Watterson probably lives behind a big iron fence with his curtains drawn 24/7, only coming out every 20 years for interviews with the local paper …

I guess it shouldn’t be a shock that Lio lives within walking distance of The Far Side.

But where’s our big pretty in color Valentine’s finale? What did Lio finally get Eva? :( I’m sad now.

Well, Gary Larson did write The Far Side for 15 years (1980-1995). Now he has been retired from The Far Side for 15 years. This might be a little tribute (he’ll be 60-years-old in August).

I still remember (and still start laughing about) the one Far Side where the little nerd boy is calmly sitting on the back of a huge, hideous monster and the monster, terrified, is screaming “Yaaahhhh! Get it off, get it off!”. Actually, I guess you had to see it, really…

I agree with WillowsDreaming, I wanted a grande finale of the Lio and Eva Valentine’s Day arc. (Not only wanted, but expected…..of course, “Lio” is all about defying expectations…..) I think both “Brevity” and “Bizarro” come close to “The Far Side” at least at times. Too bad neither is on here.

Mark is really good at drawing convincing renditions of other cartoonist’s characters for the cameos in Lio. Always well done!

Too Long has Gary Larson been absent from my comics page. No offense to Mark et. al., there simply is NO replacing the Far Side.

I hope Tatulli never ups and quits like some of the other greats.

The proper protocol for a cartoonist is to go on for a decade or two past their prime, then hope a child or assistant has the talent to take over and at least keep the memories alive for another generation.

(That leads to a mixed bag: Annie, good. B.C., OK. Blondie, fair. Dick Tracy, utterly awful.)

But none of this slinking off at their peak to sulk and rail against the outside world. Who do they think they are, J.D. Salinger?

This is a really nice tribute to a classic comic strip; it ranks right up there with that Darkwing Duck episode that featured alien cows from “the planet Larson, on the far side of the galaxy.”

As of January 1st this year, Far Side was 30 years old. So its probably a double celebration.

I feel old when people don’t recognize the FarSide. No offense, but 15 yrs ago (when I was 27) The FarSide was everywhere. Ah well, one of those generational things …

My favorite is captioned: God as a kid tries to make a chicken in his room. The panel featured a kid with a blackened face, a blown-up chemistry set and feathers flying in every direction.

    BRING BACK THE FAR SIDE!!!

One of my favorites showed a woman in her living room—and there’s this big eye looking in the window. The eye is almost as big as the window. The woman is on the phone to a neighbor and she says “Could you do me a favor? Could you look out your window and tell me what’s in my front yard?” I always loved the monster ones. And the snake ones. And the alien ones. And the . . .
