    Something that puzzles me: “Bague” is “ring” in French, so “baguette” should mean “little ring.” But it doesn’t—it means “stick” or “wand,” according to Wikipedia. Pourquoi? Je ne comprends pas.

    A mite pedantic on my part but a baguette weighs at least 250gm… whereas un pain can weigh up to 1kg, when sold by weight… Those displayed in the cartoon maybe a slight exaggeration but not too far removed from actuality…
