A fast Google™ couldn’t find when the century was invented (dividing time in hundred year chunks). In the ancient world they sure as heck weren’t concerned with the BCE/CE. Some cultures kept track from their mythical beginning of the world, counting Olympiads, or significant events (the 17th year of king Charles the Forgetful). Anyone know of the top of her head, or willing to spend more time on finding the answer?
