I still hold hopes that in the end (if it ever comes), Gunther will end up with Luann and they will live happily ever after. Perhaps they could ride a toboggan into the woods or something.
This is one of a series of strips that reminds me of how girls aren’t taught to say “no” when they want to, but try to somehow be “nice” about it (although this situation is more awkward than most). Gunther, at least when young, was not one to pick up on subtle clues like “clearly she’s not into you”. I wish that Nancy had taught Luann that old saw “I like you Gunther but I think we would be better off as friends.” Aaron really is beside the point here.
A simple conversation of explaining her deep seated love for this one particular guy might help Gun understand that it’s not so much him, but it’s one particular other person.
It appears to me like Aaron is left handed too, like Luann is (note the way he is using the pencil sharpener). So maybe they do have at least that in common.

This is where Gunther walks up to Aaron and says: “Hey, Aaron, do you want to go to the Sweetheart Dance with? Stag? Just a couple of dudes?”

Well what are you waiting for Lu?
Go ahead and _RIP the heart out of Gunther’s chest.
Then wallow in “self-pity” when the “celebrated” Mr. Hill DOESN’T ask You.
Besides, Tiffany will probably beat you to Aaron.
As usual….., ;-)

Gunther has it as bad for Luann as she does for Aaron.

Luann’s being a typical teenage girl here… style over substance. Considering what will happen in a few, so were most of the readers back then.
