Politics — a combination of the Greek word “poly” meaning many, and tics, which are blood-sucking vermin.

yeah, this idea that “my kids will be like me” is exactly what makes parents upset later on. Your kids will not be like you. They’re totally separate people, and you’ll get mad at them for not being the way you expected, and they’ll get mad at you for pretty much everything.

Knute and Crystal need each other because each is everything the other is not. They are each others moderators. Together, they posess all qualities. These two have a future together.

Poly – Tics… sheesh, is that joke still around? I kicked the slats outta my cradle when I first heard that; needless to say, a very long time ago. We Jolly Goofballs do lead a more serene and interesting life.

@john abrams – and Knute is totally off in the clouds somewhere, ignoring the darker side of life. The two of them really balance each other out.

@Rich Grise – IMO, RP may be right about a couple things (foreign wars, the war on drugs), but wrong about everything else. No thanks. My advice FWIW to people enamored of RP is to please look at the entire package, esp his ties years ago to white supremacy groups – which he of course has distanced himself from.

I hate it when people use the world to explain away why they don’t want kids. I always ask “at what point in all of history was it a good time to have kids?” People never have an answer.

@StoicLion – “history is lumpy” one of my teachers used to say. There are times when nothing much is going on, and then there are times of great turmoil. I am glad I was raised in post WW2 America – a time of unprecedented peace, stability and prosperity, versus times of great difficulty, such as the Great Depression, the Civil War, etc. Or now, for that matter. Some time periods are more difficult than others, and some countries or regions likewise are very difficult for raising kids.:That said, the reasons why people don’t want kids often have more to do with what’s going on inside of them, than anything going on the outside.

I just expected to have kids when I married, and even tho’ I divorced as soon as I could (16 years- with 4 kids), I am very proud of my kids in general. Just got a photo of one son today with Roger Staubach signing a few footballs for some of the charities he supports in Texas (Habitat and Special Olympics). I have also seen many things my kids have done to make me proud- but most important is the way they help each other in any need.
