Transcript:
Ann: "I'd like to promote you, Brad, with a pay boost. But I need to see more devotion from you" Ann: "You chat with friends, you talk about returning to firefighting. I start to wonder how loyal you are to me - to Weenieworld" Ann: "So. Are you with me or not, Brad?" Brad: "I'm... uh... with Weenieworld..."

Pfft. You are not loyal to WW â just trying to keep your job. Told you not to get snared into her black widow web. She is twisting your arm to pledge loyalty to her for a personal reason that is not work-related. QUIT! Get away when you can! She is not worth it.
wiselad over 13 years ago
wellllllllllllllllâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠ at âleastâ Brad said he was with WW, not âwith Ann Eiffelâ

Of course heâs returning to the fire department. Do you reallybelieve thereâs a future, as a hot dog jockey!!

Right â loyal to a fast food job.
LOL.
A good Wienie World manager would never expect an employee to pass up re-entry into an actual profession.
Then again, we know this manager isnât âgoodâ.
Shift managers at fast food outlets draw about $15,000 a year, $20,000 if theyâre bumped up to assistant manager.
Thatâs half what Brad would get if his fireman position opened up again.
All thatâs expected in fast food jobs is hard work and a bit of devotion to the job while you have it
Only the self-important Ann Eiffel would try to make you promise to marry it.

Heil. All of corporate iss a totalitarian, anti-democratic nightmare to depend on for employment and loyalty.Doesnât anybody remember what it was like? Yeah, you got paid. Doesnât matter where you work: once you figure it out, itâs ALL Weenie World.
Sisyphos over 13 years ago
Considering Annâs attitude toward Brad up to now, Iâd expect him to be suspicious when she suddenly offers a promotion and pay raise in return for loyalty to her (first) and WeenieWorld (second). Be very careful, Brad! ITâS A TRAP!
SWoody44 over 13 years ago
Is there a fire in Weenie Worldâs future? (At least the weenies wouldnât be sent out raw.)
draksig over 13 years ago
Sounds like me first Boss who told me I had to make a choice between working for him at minimum wage (no raises⊠EVER) or going to collage. Easiest decision I ever made.
draksig over 13 years ago
On the other hand, my second boss (delivering Pizza) told us he would be very disappointed in us if we stayed with delivering pizza long term.

SERVITUDE !!!.Has anyone REALLY LOOKED at todays âjob-marketâ? ⊠The ONLY thing the bosses want is loyalty to THEIR Company. YOU, as Employee, get NO âloyaltyâ BACK! .CUT; your hours, cut your benefits (IF you had any to begin with!), or tell you âCompany Co-Payâ is stopping â YOU have to pay for ALL your Insurance coverages, THEN â force a ânewly created positionâ on you, JUST so they can pay you the ânew Jobâs scale wageâ, which is HALF to 2/3ârds what you DID get for pay!.Why do you think people are marching? â Because they like band music?.
Chuck373 over 13 years ago
Use lies Brad. Itâs obvious she is interested in you, and not as a scullery boy. Tell her your loyalty is purchased with opportunity. Then see what âtypeâ of opportunity she is willing to lay on the table â or accross her desk for that matter.
Chuck373 over 13 years ago
If the strip was a mousetrap, Brad would just about have the cheese off, and here comes the steel bar.
glkailsik over 13 years ago
Sometimes I really wish the characters could hear the voice of reason of the many voices telling them what to do. But, this is only a cartoon written and drawn in another time. What will be will be. Still, BRAD YOU ARE A MORON!

Like Bernice said on July 16, âThat girl is seriously dementedâ.
txfirefighter over 13 years ago
After high school my manager at the restaurant where washed dishes for 5.00/hr gave me a similar speech (loyal to the company, go far). Now Iâm a firefighter. Whatâs the downside you ask? Being stuck in a dead in job, making near poverty wages, being a cog in the wheel for everyone else.
Hugh Manatee over 13 years ago
oh for heavenâs sake, spring the fire departmentâs (or a nearby fire departmentâs) âWe want you backâ story line already!
yoda1234 over 13 years ago
Tell her whatever she wants to hear, but do what ya gotta do for yourself (and Toni) in secret. Remember that in this day and age, loyalty is meaningless to management â itâs all about âwhat have you done for me in the last 5 minutes?â
yoda1234 over 13 years ago
One other point I forgot to mention⊠say whatever you need to say in order to keep the job, but SIGN NO AGREEMENTS!
The Old Wolf over 13 years ago
The psychology of petty managers dictates that small-minded people settle into dead-end jobs where the only available gratification is making others miserable. I refer you to this excellent strip for further elucidation. âI sup on your purest despair,â indeedâŠ
The greatest tragedy: our economy is such that many people have no recourse but to take jobs of this nature.
froglunch over 13 years ago
Brad, youâre skating on thin ice! Iâm glad he explicitly said WW instead of Ann in the last panel, but Iâm hoping this is enough to get him to realize that sheâs up to no good.

Mordock999 over 13 years ago
So, Greg.WHEN are we going to see the strip where Brad throws his Weenie-World uniform in Eiffelâs face while telling Her to TAKE this Job and SHOVE it Up Her perfectly formed rear-end??
Doctor11 over 13 years ago
Of course, you should do your best at your job, but you have to remember that some people ARE waiting to work elsewhere.
These are mostly college students who work one kind of job in order to get through college, and when they graduate, they will look for the job they really want, and once they have it, theyâll switch to that job.
dfowensby over 13 years ago
heck yes i want to make a nickel more than minimum! i wouldnât ever consider a firefighters 62 thousand dollar a year starting wage!

Susan said 20K(assistant manager) was half of what Brad would get if he had his firefighter job backâŠâŠâŠâŠ.20k is half of 40K
Chuck373 over 13 years ago
Brad will not do anything to mess up his relationship with Toni. And Brad could not lie to her and get away with it if he did want to take a tumble with Ann. She has opened the door for him, but he wonât walk through. I think he sees where she is going with the double meanings and he will stay on the employee side. The question is how far will she go.
Chuck373 over 13 years ago
Donât do it Brad! Your girl has bigger hair!
Davison77 over 13 years ago
He is a weenie.
Chuck373 over 13 years ago
If Toni was witness to the velvet trap Ann is springing on Brad, she would yank him out of there so fast his shoes would fly off. Brad is looking at the bitter facts of unemployment, though. Mom kicks him out of his home. Chances are he would move in with Toni. And TJ would move back with the Degroots (Nancy likes his cooking).
RickCJ7 over 13 years ago
@draksigI guess you picked working for him at minimum wage? You probably didnât go to âcollegeâ since you spelled it wrong.
Chuck373 over 13 years ago
Ann will need to go all out. She should go back and sit on the desk, slip off a shoe, and run her toe up his arm. As Toni has never required such methods of seduction, I doubt Brad has ever had this done to him. I also doubt he could handle it.
Kirk Sinclair over 13 years ago
Iâm looking forward to the day when Brad graduates from being a Weenie by actually growing a couple, and walking out of there, damn the consequences. I guess Weenie World is âcollageâ for Brad at this point, and until he figures it out, he wonât âgraduateâ. At this point, itâs hard to believe heâs with someone as fine as Toni.:Ann is such a sad little control freak that she wants to squash the words coming out of Bradâs mouth, but is so petty and small minded that she thinks she can also control his thoughts â but she sure is trying.
lance96816 over 13 years ago
As said, Say what ever it takes to keep a job. If a promotion and a raise is included then so be it. Donât sign anything. When the fire department opens up again. Just say Bye-Bye Ann, i GOT A BETTER OFFER!

Mr. Tinkles over 13 years ago
So no more chatting with friends if he wants to keep this job and earn the extra money.
Sheriff Mordecai Premium Member over 13 years ago
This has nothing to do with the job.
Kirk Sinclair over 13 years ago
@mojitobaby â sadly Ann thinks personal loyalty (âdevotionâ) does indeed have everything to do with the job. I got fired over something like this once, boss required loyalty to him over loyalty to the business, to the truth etc. Mediocre managers think this way. I know you get this, just wanted to clarify.
tegm over 13 years ago

Hi Otto!
I donât usually pick on one-letter typos, but that was so subtle and funny I literally choked on my laughter.
I know you were just teasing, cos youâd never be mean.
I think Mojito and I are on the same page here â I know fast food workers and retail managers, and have been the latter.
NO manager at a minimum-wage-paying company actually believes that loyalty extracted in this fashion is genuine.
As the Sheriff said (and Hi, Mordecai!) it ainât the job.
Itâs the power, baby â making people say and do things they donât want to say or do.
In a time of high unemployment, Eiffel knows she can extract promises that wonât be kept, but she loves the squirming.
She doesnât want Brad, and, probably, she doesnât even want Toni.
But sheâd love to cause a break-up just to reinforce her status as Queen.
mojitobaby over 13 years ago
Incredible â the biggest troll this strip has ever had, who constantly whined and moaned on comics.com and here about how outrageous it was that someone, one time, told him to âgo with the flowâ so that he made it his personal mission to deliberately refuse, is now doing the same thing â AGAIN! (Flashman, are you there for this rerun?)
All anyone has to do is check out my post yesterday, because I look like Nostradamus today. Ann is just as misunderstood as poor put-upon Tiffany â jeez, could the trolling be any more obvious?
And if this is âjust a comic stripâ, then itâs doubly pathetic that this troll has been devoting years to this effort.
Kirk Sinclair over 13 years ago
@SusanSunshine â bingo, it is all about being Queen.
Bucinka over 13 years ago
TJ could make it look like an accident for $10,000. Half up front, half when the job is done. (Thatâs what Iâm hoping, anyway.)

Hey, Annie⊠Sticking yer chest out a bit in the last panel, arenât ya?
Herbert Wallace over 13 years ago
Fire house ainât gonna happen. Brad is headed for a career change to the fast food business, and Annie is going to get him into upper management. She is probably a management recruiter placed in that resturant to find new talent.
imbaldeagle over 13 years ago
Bradâs not going back to the fire department until a)Toni has a belly full of Eiffel and b) gives her an earfull to chew on.

I have to say Iâm torn..the logical part of me says, donât mess with this woman.â The illogical part (guess) says, âman, that womanâs name ainât no accident, IâD HIT IT!â Well, I never did listen to that illogical part of me, thatâs why Iâm still sane and healthy ⊠RUN, BRAD, RUN!!
mechaman over 13 years ago
Oh, and interesting dialogue construction here as well, Greg. Ann mentions herself, then âWeenie Worldâ (hard to stop them Freudian slips, now ainât it?) And Brad comes back with âWeenie Worldâ, a bit hesitantly, but only that. HMMMMMâŠ..
