Crystal: "So look at you with the supertan" Tiffany: "Took many hours of lyin' in the sun, but the sexy look is worth it, right?" Crystal: "Is it? You're gonna have prematurely wrinkled, saggy skin" Tiffany: "But if I don't tan, I'll look all past and plain. Guys will ignore me. I'll never date and never marry. I'll end up lonely and miserable. So which is worse?" Tiffany: "I'll take the tan" Crystal: "You guys like prunes?"
That we Americans with European ancestry think tanned skin looks better than pale skin is a cultural thing, and has changed over time. In pre-industrial times, Europeans thought pale skin looked better. The fictional Snow White was considered beautiful partially because of her extremely pale complexion.
