Transcript:
Luann: "How's your knee, Quill?"
Quill: "I won't be dancing. Sorry..."
Gunther: "Ok, we're the next stop. But then we're still 2 miles from the prom..."
Rosa: "Which of us said "this will be a night we'll never forget"?"
Fancy-looking bus, don’t you think?! And, how are Luann and Quill going to Walk all of that way without shoes and with an injury? It may not hurt them Now, but it will shortly… ;)
Now will they call a taxi to take them the 2 miles from the bus stop to the Prom? If not, then by the time they get there Quill will be unable to walk any further, and he will have to be put down.
I’d have expected Gunther to break out his trusty sewing kit, Swiss Army Knife and safety pins by now. Maybe he’s waiting until they walk the next two miles, but he ought to be in “damage control” mode while they’re sitting down on the bus.
Other than that, though, I’m giving Gunther lots of “adaptability points” in this arc. He may not be spontaneous (yet), but he sure can cope with the unexpected! And I get the impression Rosa is noticing, and perhaps rearranging her position on that mysterious “Plan C” from a few weeks back.
No, I thnk they’ll walk in just as they announce who’s “King and Queen”.. – It would at least seem to be a bit of comic irony, if the persons selected were: ………
In the strip from the 17th, Luann and Quill are looking at each other, Rosa is looking at Gunther, and Gunther is staring straight ahead. In today’s strip, Luann and Quill are looking at each other, Rosa is looking at Gunther, and Gunther is staring at his cell phone. Time to invoke “Plan C”, Rosa.
“If a man does not make new acquaintance as headvances through life, he will soon find himself leftalone. A man, Sir, should keep his friendship inconstant repair.” (Samuel Johnson/ 1709 – 1784)
Well, I’ve just put my pretty IS girl to bed, and am off to follow her…have a good rest of the night. ’Nite all! ;)
“Gunth’s Android/iphone can get that "^True… – But I’m more so speaking along the lines of making sure that they specifically get on the same page as their ride, to zero in (from a logistical standpoint), the spot they would choose.. a specific point can be both practical, and efficient (as much as possible). That way, there’s no mistaking where in the area they’ll be standing. – For instance, if say they say “meet us at the park”, well, there could be a couple of entrances, there… it would be best to give a specific landmark (or street corner) to have them drive to…… that way, there will be no missing each other….
This is already a night you forgot…your purses!Young ladies, always bring a purse. I don’t care if you are worried you might lose them in jungles or that they might clash with your boyfriends’ outfits. You need to have ID in case of emergency, cab fare, your phone, and such that might be too delicate to mention.
All things considered, the foursome is holding up pretty well. Rosa, in particular, is helping keep spirits up, and Gunther is earnestly problem-solving. It’s going to turn out all right, and assuredly memorable.
The sticktights are off! They’re looking better. Now if G-man would just fix his shirt. Will Lu try to walk barefoot the rest of the way, or is she going to break off the other heel?
-once they are safely at the Prom-You are always much more optomistic than I am. I’m figuring that the 2 mile walk from the bus stop to the prom, with stops to let Quill rest his leg, will get them to the Prom just in time to watch everyone leaving.
Sometimes it’s helpful to let to let the artist know that people don’t like something. Then he can decide if he wants to continue making his characters into something people end of loving or hating. Free expression is great, ain’t it?
“except the artist in this case has stated that he does NOT read the comments here. So it’s only for OUR supposed benefit.”*Dave, Yeah, that’s what he said. Yet when he had Lu ask if Gunther was gay, Mr. Evans quickly responded to the flurry of protests over his “anti-gay” stereotypes. *My guess is that while Mr. Evans does not read the comments regularly, he is totally aware of the gist (gest?) (jests?) of conversation.
-_I’m also holding out the strip improves when Luann gets to college and becomes more than a bad student who lusts after boys with no other goals in life._-Donny, I haven’t been reading this strip as long as many others. But even I know that there is much more to Luann than simply being boy crazy and a bad student. Someone with such a shallow viewpoint wouldn’t bother saving the life of someone else (how does that get you a date?), wouldn’t volunteer and then get paid for reading to children at a library (how does that get you a date?), wouldn’t try to create music or act.-You aren’t commenting on lapses in logic, since comics aren’t about logic. You’re expressing your dislike of a character. -You get enjoyment basically from taking a contrarian viewpoint. If others like a character, you will dislike that one. If others dislike a character, you’ll defend that character. -Yeah, you have the same right to your opinion that we each have to ours. You don’t, however, have the right to invent your own set of facts.
" I suspect mostly Karen keeps track of general trends thru the Facebook page ."^That is correct. I can attest to that fact, and to the fact that their Facebook page is the one place where a person’s contributions ( I emphasize decent , tasteful and positive ) contributions are noticed by them.
“Indeed, it is an upgrade. They left in a $90,000 limo and are now returning in a $600,000 bus.”^And as Bill Cosby once remarked, they can get “free” entertainmen on the bus and subway, through some zany passengers. Provided there is a “showing” at that time available….
And anyone in a metro area (Chicago size, Reading Pennsylvania size, even Richmond Va. size) can tell you, buses come in all sizes. And can have 5-6 seats in the back…
– This is a hybrid electric bus near the general area where I live (courtesy Mr. Ben Schumin). It is one of the smallest sized buses available (both lengthwise and widthwise)….
-It is not attacking someone personally to note that they are creating their own ‘facts’ to fit their theory. You continually disparage Luann as a one-dimensional character interested only in boys, and a bad student. To do that, you have to ignore all the other things she does.
Rosa’s right— these kids have got it all: anticipation, excitement, danger, frustration, disappointment, relief, passion, tenderness. The only thing they’re missing is the prom. And dinner.
I think it’s nice to see opinions that aren’t long-winded, convoluted theories to attempt to explain every whack-a-doo thing that happens in this strip. So I say thanks to you!-I don’t know why Greg Evans’ every little plot point is peachy keen with some. Some of his ideas—or are they Karen Evans’, it doesn’t matter much—are totally absurd!
I’m amazed they haven’t yet brushed off the grass, etc. from their clothes. They best get it together by the time they get wherever they’re going. I bet they make it just in time for the dance to end and Tiff to gloat, but we’ll see.
BTW, I PASSED my final exam. I’m exhausted. But no more exams for a while. :-)
“LOL, you’re definitely not kidding us there…” ^And believe it or not, the person in that pic, is a tame example, by comparison….. they definitely get worse than that (in terms of what they’re [not] wearing, and what they’re doing)!! I’ve got tons of real life stories about the crazy shenanigans some pull on public transit!
The child bit the manager of a restaurant in which she and her responsible adult were customers. Afterwards, Toni and Shannon simply walked out. Toni would have been arrested, just as surely as if she were watching over a dog that bit someone, and she allowed it to happen and then just left. She was guilty not only of allowing an assault but also of endangering the welfare of a child by not properly supervising her. However, the Luann-fans all enthusiastically shouted “YES!!!!”, and as your response shows, they still feel that way, showing how little value they place on logic and reality in favor of basically a Punch and Judy show. “Hit her with the stick, Mr. Punch! She’s a meanie! Yay!” I consider that to be a failure on the part of the strip’s creator, if he does indeed aspire to portray a humorous depiction of “real life”.
Wow!!!! -I have one where a lady had 2 little kids on the light rail train causing so much ruckus, that the operator had to stop the train, and get on the intercom and warn her/them, in front of everybody. On top of that, she used the kids to let a gentleman know that she was… "interested’…. in him. They (being little kids) actually yelled out something (which my wife and I could see was evidently coached up by her) to the effect of asking if the gentleman would like to see the woman’s “unmentionables” (that she apparently had just bought).. I’d shudder to find out what they looked like… I had dared not turn around to witness that part in her/their antics. Once they got off at their stop, then EVERYBODYliterally applauded and cheered….
The ones where they were trying to “join the club” are usually the buses where it’s the kids from “the wrong side of the school” (the metro city contracts with the city school system to transport the kids, instead of “charter/traditional school buses”.) One reason that I’m glad that I live outside of the city, when it comes to such things……
That’s logical. However, as argy.bargy2 explained, “comics aren’t about logic”. The Evans-can-do-no-wrong crowd don’t care about realism, they care only about who are the creator’s designated “good guys” and “bad guys”. What those characters actually do, good or bad, is irrelevant.
“in their late 30’s”^Yeah, I was sure of that… I was just going “old man Jenkins” in lamenting these “young uns” that carry on where I live, and the fact that these "young-uns’ " misconduct is because "they think they can do something bold” to prove something…. they only prove they have no respect for anyone (including themselves)….
