I doubt most people outside of Utah know who he was, or that he served in the Senate as a Republican for 42 years, or that he was long-time friends with Ted Kennedy. He spoke at Kennedy’s funeral and recommended his widow, Victoria, fill Sen. Kennedy’s seat in the senate. In addition, he wrote the lyrics to a song that went platinum in the Christian Pop genre. At the request of The Atlantic correspondent, Jeffrey Goldberg, Hatch authored the lyrics to “Eight Days of Hanukkah”, described by Goldberg as "a hip hop Hannukah song.
