I actually used to do something like this. The caller would ask, “How are you today?”, and I’d start a long meander like “Oh, not too bad, but my sciatica has been acting up the past week. And my blood sugar skyrocketed yesterday, for no apparent reason, so I called my endocrinologist, and he told me to adjust my insulin pump’s basal rate to a higher level about two hours before this happened, and…” It usually worked. The goal, of course, is to keep them on the line as long as possible. I think it worked: we hardly ever get scam calls now.
