I used to have a teacher that never asked who knew the answer, she would just go down the rows and ask the next person in line but some days she would go all the way down row 1 then to 2 and some days she would do 3rd person on row 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. You never knew. Kept us on our toes and this was in highschool.

I hardly ever raised my hand, even if I knew the answer. There was always that chance that I’d be laughed at.

I never raised my hand, but the teacher seemed to always call on me (at least it felt that way).

Oftentimes it was the people that DIDN’T raise their hands that the teacher called on.
