Oops. I guess she must be engaged. If I need to answer for my comments over this cartoon. I apologize if using the terms ‘floozy’ or ‘slut’ offend anyone. I’d use them in reference to men too, or other terms, which I’m not aware of—probably from the double standards I admit our culture has yet. I remarked at Lila, since she’s the main character. The ‘guy slut’ isn’t my concern. Since Lila is the one entertaining us, I made comments about her. I can refrain from using derogatory terms and keep my statements objective. I’m afraid that because of Lila’s past, I’m cynical about her. So I didn’t think of saying ‘Good move, Lila.’ I’ll wait till she proves to me that she’s going on the ‘straight and narrow.’ And she won’t prove it to me, unless she show’s she either loves Dr. Klein, or calls off the engagement. Is this enough commenting, all because of a humorous comic? BTW I write novels as a hobby.
@skeeterhawk…you have a right to your opinion…we all just love Lila….for the record, Lila has ‘alluded’ to being a slut or floozy or whatever in the past(or at least Boyd picked on her for it), but this is the first time John’s has taken her as far as sleeping with someone and really, it’s been just one and that’s Trace…most of the time she’s been real picky about the men she’s dated or they have left her…ie Bob. Actually, Drew has been the only one that we have actual ‘proof’ of actually sleeping with anybody because she got pregnant.
When rereading my comment, I see it can be take pretty seriously. I like Lila and can empathize with her. I made the note since one or two had mentioned being offended by my use of the terms. Yes, I recall she alluded to herself with one of those terms. But I’ve gotten a kick out of these folks. I can imagine Lila being my daughter. Anyway, on with life …………..
Skeeterhawk, One can call ones “self” anything one wants to, but if someone else uses the same terms in reference to you, it can cause hurt feelings and a lessoning of ones ego. You say you write novels as a hobby. Does that make you a novelist or a hobbyist? Have they been published? If not, does that make you a failed novelist aka a failure? I am sure you get my point. One thing you arent is stupid. But words like slut, tramp, and hussy DO offend a lot of us women. When men are branded with the same hot iron, you may then use the terms without the seeming insensitivity
And I’ll add fuel to the fire by saying that it shouldn’t matter why someone is marrying someone else. It should only matter to the ones who are in the relationship. If they both are fine with it, that’s fine with me. Love can always develop later, just as if love is the reason for marrying, it can fade later. Whatever makes their relationship lasts (esp if children are involved) is what really matters.
@ skeeterhawk – I like your comments. They are honest and you try to do some soul searching and talk about it when things change. It’s the comments where people come up with a strong opinion and stand their ground no matter what happens that bug me. No one’s perfect, so why do we all think we are?
