An unmentioned side effect of ‘fear for one’s security’ as played by the hucksters. For example, I have seen a number of televised reports of people snatching packages off porches, but none in which the security system prevented them from doing so.
So I guess the value here is being able to see your goods trotting down the road instead of being able to open them under your tree at Christmas. And the fun of trying to get replacements and insurance checks and like that.
