They’re mean when they’re doing something to a child that literally terrifies them and the procedure isn’t necessary. I’m talking about throat cultures for me. Those terrified me as a kid and they still do. But my Indiana doctor was always insisting on doing it when I had strep throat. And he could tell without looking. On one of the visits, I cried, begged and pleaded with him not to do it and he still did it. I was probably 10 years old by then. Now if a kid that age is crying like a two year old and begging not to have it done, and he knows what’s wrong without it, it is NOT! NECESSARY! C’mon, it was strep throat. You can tell just by smelling the breath! The doctor I had when I moved to Buffalo never did it. I had one that wanted it when I was an adult and they had to give me the swab to do it. My tongue was closing off my throat if they did it.
